My experience of traveling has provided me with a number of benefits, one of which is the opportunity to develop recipes in bulk. In most cases, when I am at home, I will not have more than two to five recipes prepared and ready to share at the drop of a hat. My content has never been so meticulously planned out, and most of the time, I take pleasure in the freedom that comes with that.

Make the Hamburger Steak:

  • Put all of the ingredients for the steaks into a large mixing bowl, and then use your hands to squish everything together until it is thoroughly combined.
  • Out of the steak mixture, shape it into five patties of beef.

  • One to two tablespoons of avocado oil (or any other cooking oil of your choice) should be added to a large skillet that is heated over high heat. For a few minutes, let the skillet heat up until it reaches a temperature where it is sizzling hot.
  • The beef patties should be placed on the hot skillet with care, and they should be cooked for one minute, or until a crust that is golden brown forms.

  • After flipping the meat patties with caution, continue cooking them for one more minute.
  • Place the hamburger patties that have been seared on a plate and set them aside; it is not necessary to cook the patties all the way through at this point.

Make the Gravy:

  • The gravy can be made by placing the skillet back on the burner and heating it over medium heat. Then, add the butter and avocado oil to the skillet.
  • In about three minutes, add the chopped yellow onion and continue to cook it until it starts to become more pliable.

  • The mushrooms and garlic should be added, and the cooking process should continue with occasional stirring until the mushrooms start to sweat and turn a light brown color, which should take about five minutes.
  • Bring the flour to a boil.

  • Black pepper, Worcestershire sauce, and beef broth should be poured in. Dijon mustard should also be added. A full but controlled boil should be achieved with the gravy.
  • Take the beef patties that have been browned and place them back into the skillet in a single layer with the gravy.

  • Continue cooking for approximately three to four minutes. In order to ensure that the gravy is thick, carefully flip the patties and continue cooking for an additional two to three minutes.
  • Enjoy the Salisbury steaks with the side dishes of your choice and serve them to your guests.

  • For this recipe, you can use regular bread crumbs, Panko bread crumbs, or gluten-free bread ingredients. This recipe calls for breadcrumbs, but you can substitute a third cup of gluten-free all-purpose flour for them.
  • Add a half cup of tapioca flour to the meat mixture, and use two teaspoons of tapioca flour to make the gravy. This will make the dish suitable for a paleo diet.
