Tomato Sauce

  • ½ pound lean ground beef
  • ½ pound Italian sausage
  • 1 onion, diced

  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 36 ounces pasta sauce

  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

Cheese Mixture

  • 2 cups ricotta cheese
  • ¼ cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 egg, beaten

  • Set the oven temperature to 350°F. As directed on the package, boil the lasagna noodles in a big saucepan of salted water until they are al dente. Rinse with cold water, drain, and set aside.

  • Brown the sausage, meat, onion, and garlic in a big skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat until no pink is visible. Eliminate any fat.

  • Add the tomato paste, spaghetti sauce, Italian seasoning, ½ teaspoon each of salt and black pepper. Simmer for five minutes, or until thickened, uncovered, over medium heat.
  • Put 1 ½ cups mozzarella, ¼ cup parmesan cheese, ricotta, parsley, egg, and ¼ teaspoon salt in a separate bowl.

  • Take a 9×13 pan or casserole dish and spread 1 cup of the beef sauce on it.
  • Add three lasagna noodles on top. Arrange one cup of beef sauce and ⅓ of the ricotta cheese mixture on top. Do this two more times. Top three noodles with the remaining sauce to finish.
  • Bake, covered with foil, for forty-five minutes.
  • Take off the foil and top with the leftover ½ cup of mozzarella and ¼ cup of parmesan cheese. Bake for a further fifteen minutes, or until bubbling and golden. If preferred, broil for 2 to 3 minutes.
  • Before chopping, let it rest for at least fifteen minutes.
