Prepare the puff pastry

Step 1

  • Using a food processor, combine the flour, butter cubes, and salt respectively.
  • Pulse approximately ten times. After adding half a cup of water, pulse the dough until it comes together to form a ball.
  • If necessary, add additional water.

Step 2

  • Knead the dough a few times after transferring it to a surface that has been dusted with flour.
  • Roll out the dough into a rectangle measuring 10 inches by 15 inches using a rolling pin that has been lightly dusted with flour.
  • Prepare the dough by folding it in half three times, then wrapping it in plastic wrap and placing it in the refrigerator for at least an hour.
  • Although it should be cold, the pastry should be easy to work with.

Prepare the filling

Step 3

  • Heat the oil in a large pan over a heat setting of medium.
  • Continue to cook the onions for approximately eight minutes, or until they begin to brown.
  • Add the balsamic vinegar, thyme, and salt to the mixture, and stir in the Domino® Light Brown Sugar.
  • Caramelization should occur after an additional 15 minutes of cooking. Utilise black pepper as a seasoning.
  • Please allow to reach room temperature.

Assemble the pastries

Step 4

  • Begin by preheating the oven to a temperature of 400 degrees Fahrenheit. You can make an egg wash by beating an egg in a small bowl with a whisk.

Step 5

  • Flour a surface and roll out puff pastry into a rectangle measuring 10 inches by 15 inches.
  • Cut into nine equal squares. Each piece should be placed approximately 2 inches apart on a baking sheet that has been lined with parchment paper.
  • Add caramelised onions and diced brie to the top of each individual piece. The edges should be brushed with egg wash.
  • After fifteen to twenty minutes in the oven, the cheese should have melted and the pastry should be golden brown.

Additional Tips

  • You can save time by using a puff pastry that has already been made and thawed. For optimal results, puff pastry must be stored in a cold environment; therefore, it is essential to work quickly.
  • When the tarts are cooked, the egg wash gives them a more golden appearance. You are free to leave it out if you so choose.
  • Around eight to ten minutes at a temperature of 350 degrees Fahrenheit is sufficient to reheat tarts.
  • The recipe is ideal for gatherings, and it can be multiplied by two or three to accommodate a large number of guests.
