Italian Hot Chocolate, or Cioccolata Calda, is a famous thick, sweet hot cocoa recipe. You'll agree after one spoonful that this is the best hot chocolate recipe!
– 1 ½ cups milk, divided (2% or whole milk)– 2 teaspoons cornstarch– 5 ounces dark chocolate, chopped (about 70% cacao)– 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder (sifted)– 2 tablespoons sugar– whipped cream for topping (optional)

Direction
1
Pour 1 ¼ cups milk into a small pot. Mix the cornstarch with the remaining ¼ milk in a small bowl and set aside.
2
Whisk in dark chocolate, cocoa powder, and sugar to medium-low heat milk. Keep mixing until it simmers.
3
Stir in the cornstarch mixture while whisking until the hot chocolate thickens and returns to a low simmer.
4
Fill your little serving cups with Italian hot chocolate immediately. Use a spoon to serve with whipped cream.
A little Italian Hot Chocolate goes a long way! I recommend serving it in an espresso cup with a spoon.
